Dmack launches UK-made gravel tyre range
The new gravel tyres come after three months of development testing and evaluation in Spain and UK, headed by motorsport technical director Fiorenzo Brivio and his team of technicians in Britain. Dmack says they feature an improved construction and upgraded compounds, offering enhanced performance across all surfaces and conditions. All Dmack tyres for priority drivers in the world rally championship are now being manufactured in the UK.
Dmack communications director Glenn Patterson told Tyres & Accessories that the new tyres mark the beginning of “a manufacturing partnership with the Avon Motorsport arm of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co Europe.” He added that the latest World Rally Championship range is “being produced in [Cooper’s] Melksham factory.” Previously, all Dmack’s products have been manufactured by Shandong Yongtai Chemical Group Co Ltd, the manufacturer of the Durun brand, which established a UK sales operation in late 2014. More recently, Dmack told local Carlisle newspaper, the News & Star, that it was looking at options for UK production, though at the time it was suggested that it would pursue a new facility.
The firm has also developed new specification soft and hard gravel tyres for competitors in WRC cars, with all new products available in time for Rally Portugal in May. This means competitors will be able to choose from a complete range of upgraded tarmac and gravel tyres for WRC 2, with the DMT-RC2 asphalt tyre, which clinched the greatest number of fastest stage times on last weekend’s Circuit of Ireland rally, also available.
In addition to introducing new products, Dmack has created a bonus scheme rewarding WRC 2 drivers with discounted prices based on the number of events contested and their results in the WRC 2 category. A driver who wins a WRC 2 round using Dmack tyres will receive his tyres for free on that event.
