General Tire launches new Grabber AT3 and Grabber X3 tyres
General Tire, which is part of the Continental group of brands, has launched two new 4×4 tyres. The Grabber AT3 and Grabber X3 tyres are aimed at the on/off road all-terrain segment and out-and-out off-road segments respectively and both offer significant improvements in performance compared with their predecessor products.
To be specific, the Grabber X3 is given an on/off-road ratio of 20/80 per cent, while the Grabber AT3’s ratio is 50/50. Both models will qualify for the M+S mark and the snowflake symbols, indicating their suitability for all-season use. For its part the Grabber X3 also qualifies for Professional Off Road (POR) exemption from European tyre labelling legislation, especially the newer, more stringent noise requirements that come into force in November. However, due to other European rules, POR tyres cannot also bear the M+S marking, even if they are capable of such performance. For this reason European-orientated Grabber X3 tyres will not bear both marks, but US-market models of the same line will.
The new Grabber AT3 offers specific improvements of up 15 per cent compared with its Grabber AT predecessor. The strongest of these are in snow performance (which is up 15 per cent, something the 3PMSF marking demonstrates) and mileage, which is up 7 per cent.
General Tire will initially be producing 44 metric sizes for rims between 15 and 20 inches, with an additional 20 LT and C sizes to follow in the spring of 2017. These tyres are approved for speeds of up to 240 km/h. In total, the Grabber AT3 will be manufactured in 64 sizes for rims from 15 to 20 inches (including non-metric sizes).
For its part the Grabber X3 will be available in 19 different sizes for 15- to 19-inch rims. All sizes of this off-road specialist are approved for speeds of up to 160 km/h.
