Roborace names Michelin as official tyre supplier
Roborace is an upcoming Formula E support series set to begin in 2017, using all-electric machinery.
Instead of manufacturing bespoke racing tyres, Michelin has been assigned to designing rubber that is equally suitable for road cars. One of the key reasons behind the strategy is to ensure easy transfer of technology from the race track to the wider automotive market. Michelin has already began work on the tyres at an undisclosed facility in time for the series’ debut in 2017. The French manufacturer is Roborace’s third official partner after A.I supplier Drive PX2 and smart electric truck maker Charge.
“We are extremely proud to have Michelin as our partner. We expect our partners to be bold and to believe in a driverless future where our cities are greener, safer, quieter and smarter in ways that improve everyday lives,’’ said Denis Sverdlov, CEO, Roborace.
“Michelin impressed us every time we met and they deeply understand the powerful opportunity of what road travel will become. They are pushing us, and themselves, to develop a world that moves from possibility to reality.“
Pascal Couasnon, Michelin Motorsport Director, added: “We are very excited to confirm our partnership with Roborace today. We have been following the championship’s progress very closely and have been testing privately with them for some time.
“We are very impressed by the speed at which Roborace has been developing driverless technology and hardware for its championship. Driverless technology is coming and we want to be at the forefront in terms of research and development.”
